Song Bio:
Valerie Smith records a classic rendition of the song "Walk Right Back." She has sung the song for years during jam sessions and just sharing music with friends. While recording in the studio, she decided that this was a must to add to her 35 years of recording! She met the Everly Brothers during her time living in Bell Buckle, TN, at the Bell Buckle Cafe, which made the song more nostalgic as part of her journey through music experiences.
The origin of The Everly Brothers' "Walk Right Back" falls in line with its writer, Sonny Curtis's military career. He wrote the song in basic training, and the Everlys' version was released the same day he landed in France in 1960 to do his duty. Curtis was a member of Buddy Holly's band, The Crickets.
Sonny Curtis played guitar with the Everly Brothers for about three years off and on. The other two Crickets, Jerry Allison and Joe B. Mauldin, and I were their backup band in 1959 before I got drafted and entered the Army. After I came out of the Army, I played with them for a couple of years … this was in basic training, it was a Sunday afternoon, and I had the worst old, beat-up Sears Roebuck kind of guitar. Nothing against Sears Roebuck, but their guitars were horrible! I wrote "Walk Right Back" on that guitar on a Sunday afternoon in basic training in Fort Ord. California.
Valerie, along with long-time friends in the recording studio, (Sound Engineer/Banjo) Scott Vestal, Producer Donna Ulisse, Harmony Vocals Jerry Salley and Donna Ulisse, Acoustic Guitar Cody Kilby, Upright Bass Evan Winsor, steel Guitar Jeff Partin, Fiddle Jason Carter, and Mandolin Nate Burie.
The unique shoes displayed on the cover art are the pair that Valerie wears at several of her shows (which have become a talking point with her fans). Enjoy the classic; it was a ton of fun for Valerie and the studio gang to record, and have a good time singing along with the recording!
