Throw Another Stone
This song is written by a friend, Mike Maravilla, who was the leader of a band Nathan Played in from the age of 14. Mike retired from the Navy. He thought there aren’t enough Navy-related songs in bluegrass music. He wrote “Throw Another Stone (In the Ocean)” to try to rectify that situation. It was a staple of the Duck Wallow Lane band which featured Mike on bass, his son, Barrett on mandolin, Nathan on banjo, and future bluegrass star, Morgan Brake on guitar and lead vocals. Nathan wanted to invite Morgan and Barrett to sing with him on the chorus, but they were both away at college and he just couldn’t wait. So, like the rest of the album, Nathan sings all the parts himself.
