Sledd Ridin’

By nathanbeaumontbluegrass@gmail.com

This is a great instrumental written by Sonny Osborne and Dale Sledd. It is a particularly important banjo tune for Nathan. First, his dad, David, recorded it with the Beaumont Family Band in 1982. But more recently, Banjo legend Kristen Scott Benson video-recorded Nathan and his friend, fellow teenage banjo phenom, Nikolai Margulis, at IBMA playing Sledd Ridin’ at the table during lunch. She sent the digital recording to Sonny. At an Osborne Brothers tribute festival, hosted by Ernie Evans at Jeckyl Island, Ga. in January of 2023, Sonny’s son, Stephen, told us that he, Stephen is the one who showed the video to Sonny. He even remembered that it was “about six weeks before he died.” Somehow, that all just makes the song very special to, well, Nathan’s dad, particularly.
