“Sometime around the release of our “Banjo Player’s Blues” album in 2020, Mike Bub texted us a YouTube link to Mac Odell’s recording of this song and said that this would be a good one for us to record. Mac Odell is the writer of many gospel songs that we know in bluegrass music today but this is a rare secular piece by him, and we thought it was a mighty good one! We knew our next album was going to be all gospel, so I just made a note of the song to look at later. At our first session for this album, we had two songs that we made sure to record: this one, suggested by Bub and another one that was suggested to us by Little Roy Lewis. Red Ball Rocket Train is a classic train song that fits our style to a tee! And we hope the folks enjoy our arrangement of this song about a fine steam powered train!” —Jeremy Stephens
