Odd One Out
"Odd One Out” is a song for anyone who’s ever felt a little different, a little out of place, or like they’re watching life happen from the sidelines. It was born out of those quiet moments when we can’t help but compare our messy, real lives to someone else’s highlight reel. The song peels back that glossy layer we all tend to present and gets honest about what’s underneath.
At first glance, the story follows someone who looks like they have it all together, always ridin’ high, always catching a break, always smiling for the world. From the outside, it’s all bright lights, pretty bows, and picture-perfect moments. But behind that flawless front, they’re quietly falling apart, just like the rest of us from time to time.
Amanda Cook shares what the song means to her:
“‘Odd One Out’ reminds us that the feeling of not fitting in is universal. No matter how flawless someone appears, every one of us carries doubts, scars, and insecurities we’re afraid to show. This song leans into that shared vulnerability and asks whether blending in is worth the cost. When Heather Mabe sent this demo to me, I was completely bowled over with emotion, the track gave me goosebumps from the very first listen. Heather is one of my favorite artists and getting the chance to record a song she’s written is truly an honor.”
Ultimately, “Odd One Out” lands on a comforting truth: none of us really have it all figured out. We’re all the odd one out in some way. And maybe that’s what brings us together. When we stop trying to hide the imperfect parts of ourselves, we find the connection and belonging we’ve been craving all along.
