Jaelee Roberts brings honesty and emotion to “Memories on the Moon”

“The lyrics hit me immediately,” says Jaelee Roberts about “Memories on the Moon,” her latest
single for Mountain Home Music Company. “What makes this song so special to me is how
deeply personal, yet universal, it feels. It was originally written from the perspective of losing a partner and learning how to live with that kind of heartbreak and absence. But I think it can also
speak to anyone who’s experienced loss in any form a breakup, distance, change, or simply
missing someone you love. To me, that’s what makes a truly great song: when people can hear
it and find pieces of their own story inside of it.”

There’s little doubt that many listeners to “Memories on the Moon”’s blend of melancholy and
persistent hope will do just that especially since, as Roberts confesses, she had a particular
model in mind. “I’ve been inspired by so many artists throughout my life,” she notes, “but one of
my biggest influences is Marty Raybon. When I first started singing this song, I immediately
thought about the honesty and emotion in his voice, and I tried to bring some of that same
sincerity into this recording.”

Written by hitmaker Billy Droze in tandem with Keith Barnacastle and Rebekah Speer, Roberts
says she recognized the song’s merits immediately. “Last year, Iwas at Donna Ulisse and Jerry
Salley’s songwriters’ workshop all of us sitting in a circle sharing songs when Keith and
Rebekah played Billy’s demo of ‘Memories on the Moon’ through a little speaker in the room.
From the very first listen, I knew I had to record it. I didn’t know when I’d get the chance, but I
remember looking at them and saying, ‘I want this song.’

“When we got into the studio, it honestly felt like magic,” she adds. “Tony Wray on acoustic
guitar, Alan Bartram on bass, Justin Moses on mandolin and dobro, and Ron Stewart on banjo
brought so much heart and depth to the track. Zack Arnold added harmony vocals that elevated
everything even further his voice and ideas were truly the finishing touch.”

“I have fallen completely in love with this recording,” she concludes, “and I’m beyond grateful
that I got to be the one to bring this song to life and share it with all of you. I truly hope that it
touches your hearts the way that is has mine.”
