Fire On The Hill

Written and sung by Brian Eversole, “Fire on the Hill” is rooted in his firsthand experience during the catastrophic wildfires that devastated the Great Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg, Tennessee, on November 28, 2016.

At the time, Eversole was serving as a Park Ranger with Great Smoky Mountains National Park, helping evacuate the park’s last remaining visitors and employees when it became apparent just how grave the danger facing both him and the surrounding community had become.

Through vivid imagery of glowing skies, fierce winds, falling trees, and burning embers, “Fire on the Hill” captures the urgency and uncertainty of that unforgettable night. The song follows the desperate search for safety as the fire closes in, while its final verse reflects the hope and faith that carried so many through the disaster.

Set against a hard-driving traditional bluegrass arrangement, the single features Brian Eversole on lead vocals and mandolin, Julia Eversole on bass and tenor vocal, David Eversole on guitar and baritone vocal, Ashton Murray on banjo, and Malachi Ellenburg on fiddle.

More than a bluegrass song about wildfire, “Fire on the Hill” is a personal account inspired by real events. It stands as a tribute to the courage of first responders, the resilience of the people of the Smoky Mountains, and the communities forever changed by one of East Tennessee’s most devastating natural disasters.
