Christmas Time Back Home

By mfreeman@rebelrecords.com

“’Christmas Time Back Home’ is one of the few quintessential classic bluegrass Christmas songs and is a song that has been in our High Fidelity collective consciousness for some time. We have performed it at Christmas functions over the years but never considered recording it until now. It was suggested to us by Mark Freeman at Rebel Records as a twin banjo feature, and it just made sense, so we recorded it! The inspiration for the arrangement comes from the Country Gentlemen’s original recording of the song for Rebel Records in 1962 with the feel of the twin banjos coming from the work of Eddie Adcock and Pete Kuykendall on the Gents’ 1963 cut of ‘This Morning at Nine.’

We love this song because it paints a beautiful picture of the ideal Christmas time like we see in the early Courier and Ives lithographs and that we imagine when we get a nice snow covering the ground during the winter season. We hope the song evokes the same warm feelings for the listener as it does for us in singing and playing it!” —Jeremy Stephens
