Black Oak
"There’s something special about an old tree, and for me it’s the oak. There’s a big black oak growing in my backyard, right above the spot where Colebrook Road has rehearsed for years. We’ve watched it change with the seasons, and it was here long before us and will be here long after. That sense of time and permanence is what sparked this song. From the start, everyone in the band felt it was something special. I sang the idea to our fiddle player Joe, and he brought it to life with that haunting intro. The song moves through time beneath that oak tree, first a boy burying his grandfather, then a man burying his father, and finally realizing there’s one more place waiting beneath the tree." – Jesse Eisenbise
