Auction At The Home Place

I've loved this song for as long as I can remember. My folks performed it a lot with their band Prairie Grass. I guess I could see myself as that kid, standing next to her dad, bearing witness to the loss of everything except the family pickup truck, clothes on their backs, and the breath in their lungs. When the church ladies leave in verse three, I usually start crying. Auction was on the top of my list for songs to include in this collection.

I have a couple favorite moments in this recording: Jacob's George Shuffler-esque guitar back-up under verse 2. And I love how we busted out the B3 quartet. Check out Ned's bass vocal!
